When they heard that Thoreau was closing, hundreds of current and former campers, staffers, and parents expressed dismay. How could this unique place—which had somehow managed to give so many people the best summers of their lives while also instilling in them the values of community, diversity, social engagement, and environmentalism—be gone? A group of former campers and staff looked into ways to save camp and concluded that purchasing a property would be more financially sound than renting. To that end, we announced a capital campaign dedicated to the ideals of Thoreau-Kokosing, for current campers and communities, and for future generations. Please review our mission for more information on what we are striving to achieve. This website is the Association's Town Meeting. It is a place to gather together and trade ideas, get news, as well as the place to sign up for “activities.” This campaign will only succeed if the community that Camp Thoreau and Camp Kokosing created now gives back in time, effort, and money. So please do sign up to be a part of the effort to save Camp: use this form to leave your contact information. We'll meet at the White Chairs in the years to come! |
